Guidelines for the Preparation of CSSTEAP M.Tech Thesis

12. References

Any work of others if used in the text, it should be acknowledged. If the numbers of authors are more than 2, then the first author’s name followed by et al is used. Some examples of the citation is as follows.

  • ………small fields tending to have low accuracies even when the effect of mixed pixels was eliminated (Dadhwal, et al.,1991)

  • Kanfman and Fraser (1983) has given a qualitative explanation for adjacency effect.

Title REFERENCE shall be typed font 14, capital bold centered on page. The listing should be made a space below in the alphabetical order. If a number of publications of the same author (s) are referred they will be placed in the chronological order. Typical example is given in Appendix 4
The organization of the thesis is schematically shown in Appendix 5

13. General Instructions

1. Paper Standard A4 size (8 ˝ " * 11") white, only shall be used.

2. Font: Type, size and line spacing

Aerial or Times New Roman may be used but consistently the same type should be used throughout. Font size 12 shall be used for the text, while titles (ABSTRACT, CHAPTER, APPENDIX etc.) shall be bold of size 14. The text of the thesis shall be double spaced including between paragraphs.

3. Margin:

Left margins must be 1.5" (38mm). Top, right and bottom margins must be 1" (25mm). However for all major titles (Abstract, Chapter, etc.) they start 2" from top page. Table and figures also should confirm to the above margin specifications.
After headings and subheadings the text should start at least two full lines gap below them. At the end of a page if only one line of text fits below a heading, move the heading to the next page.

4. Page Numbers

Preliminary pages are numbered with lower case of Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, iv….). The title page is numbered as (i), but this is not typed. Similarly, declaration and acknowledgement pages also do not carry numbers, though they are counted. The first page on which number is typed will be abstract. Pages of main text, starting with chapter-1, should be consecutively numbered using Arabic numerals (1,2,3….), beginning with 1 on chapter 1, page. Place page numbers in the upper right hand corner 12mm from the top edge and with last digit even with right hand margin.

5. Tables & figures

Each table and figure must have a unique number and title. Figures and tables should be numbered consecutively for each chapter. For example if a figure is chapter 2, is 3rd then assign 2.3 to the figure. Similar conventions applies to table also. Figure and table captions should be below the figure/Table and left justified. If figures/Tables appear in Appendices, then it shall be represented with a prefix A. for example Table 2 in Appendix 3 will be designated Table A3.2

6. Equations

Like figures and tables, equations should also be numbered consecutively for each chapter and represented in parenthesis at right margin.
